IPTV Smarters Pro is reliable once it's set up, and most problems have a simple cause. Find your symptom below. The same fixes work for most other IPTV players.
Error messages at a glance
The exact wording varies between versions, but most messages fall into one of these groups.
| What the app says | What it usually means | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid username or password | A typo, or the subscription has ended | Check the details and expiry date |
| Network error or connection timed out | Wrong server address or port, or no internet | Check the server URL, then your connection |
| Unfortunately IPTV Smarters Pro has stopped | The app crashed | Restart, clear the cache, check storage |
| Black screen or playback error | The internal player can't handle that stream | Change the player in settings |
| A message about maximum connections | Every screen on your plan is in use | Stop playback on another device |
“Invalid username or password” or “Authorisation failed”
- Check the server URL. It must start with http:// or https:// and include the port number if one was given, for example
http://server.example.com:8080. A missing port is the most common mistake. - Check for look-alike characters. Capital I vs lower-case l, letter O vs zero. Logins are case-sensitive.
- Remove spaces. Copying and pasting can add a space at the end of a field.
- Check your subscription is active. An expired subscription shows the same error.
See Xtream Codes logins explained for the exact format.
“Unfortunately IPTV Smarters Pro has stopped” or the app crashes
- Restart the device by unplugging it for 30 seconds.
- Clear the app's cache: on Android and Fire TV, go to Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications > IPTV Smarters Pro > Clear cache.
- Check the device has free storage. Low storage causes crashes when the guide is saved.
- Update the app, or uninstall and reinstall it from the official source.
- As a last resort, clear the app's data. This removes your saved login, so have your details ready.
Smarters not working on a Fire TV Stick
- New Vega OS sticks: the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and Amazon's other Vega OS sticks only install apps from the Amazon Appstore, so a version downloaded from the developer's website won't install on them. See our Fire TV Stick guide for which models work.
- Installed from the website: apps installed with Downloader don't update themselves. If Smarters starts misbehaving after a Fire TV update, install the latest version from the developer's official site.
- Storage: 8 GB sticks fill up quickly. Clear the cache and uninstall apps you don't use.
Channels won't play or show a black screen
- Change the player: in Settings > Player Selection, switch the live TV player and try again.
- Change the stream format: if your version offers it, switch between MPEG-TS and HLS.
- Test another channel: if only one channel fails, tell us which.
- Check you aren't over your screen limit: close the app on other devices.
No TV guide, or listings are wrong
Use the option to refresh or reload EPG from the home screen. If times are out by an hour, check the device's time zone, then the EPG time-shift setting. Our EPG guide covers the rest.
Buffering in Smarters
If channels play but stop and start, the cause is almost always the connection. Work through how to fix IPTV buffering.
Smarters has disappeared from my app store
App store listings change. If you can't find the app, don't download it from an unofficial site. Use another reputable player from your store instead: your login works in any player that supports Xtream Codes. On iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, the developer's app is called Smarters Player Lite. Our IPTV player guide lists alternatives by device.
